The throttle body, also known as a throttle valve, is a metal component located in the intake manifold that regulates the amount of air entering the combustion chamber. In petrol engines, its operation directly affects idle speed and torque, while in diesel engines (e.g., BMW E60 530d), it serves as an auxiliary valve for engine shutdown and emission control. The throttle body diameter in typical 3.0d engines ranges from 65 to 70 mm, and its control precision reaches 0.1 degrees.
