What do tire accessories consist of?

Tire accessories are elements supporting the maintenance, repair, and monitoring of tires in a car. This group includes, among others, snow chains, snow covers, repair kits, jacks, wheel wrenches, and TPMS sensors. They can be carried in the trunk, mounted at the wheel, or work with the vehicle's electronics. Selection depends on tire size, rim version, and vehicle equipment.

What are tire accessories used for?

Tire accessories are used to improve safety, maintain correct pressure, and enable quick reaction in case of a wheel failure. They facilitate tire replacement, temporary puncture repair, and driving in difficult winter conditions. Properly selected, they also support the correct operation of rims, valves, and pressure monitoring systems.

What is the construction and function of a TPMS pressure sensor?

A TPMS pressure sensor is a component mounted at the valve or inside the rim that measures air pressure in the wheel. It consists of a housing, a measuring sensor, transmission electronics, and a power element, and in many versions, also a mounting valve. Its function is to transmit data to the vehicle's controller and warn the driver about pressure drops. When replacing, you must verify the OEM number, compatibility with the car system, and coding method.

How to choose snow chains for wheel size?

Chains should be chosen primarily based on tire size and vehicle manufacturer recommendations regarding wheel arch clearance. It is worth checking on which axle they can be mounted and whether the car has restrictions for a specific type of link. The tensioning method and access to the wheel after mounting are also important.

What data to compare before buying a repair kit or jack?

Before buying, it is worth checking the OEM number, kit completeness, compressor power supply type, and compatibility with the storage location in the car. For a jack, the support points provided by the manufacturer and whether the set contains the correct wheel wrench are important. For used parts, the condition of threads, cables, and mounting elements also matters.

How to take care of tire accessories after the season and after use?

After use, it is worth cleaning accessories of mud, salt, and moisture, and then storing them in a dry place. This applies especially to chains, metal tools, and electronic components that do not tolerate corrosion and dirt well. A good practice is also to periodically check the completeness of the set and the condition of cables, valves, and moving mechanisms.
