What do sunroofs, convertible tops, panoramic and standard roofs consist of?

Sunroofs, convertible tops, panoramic and standard roofs are assemblies of body elements that include the roof skin and parts responsible for its mounting and operation. Depending on the design, they may include a cassette, guides, seals, drains, an opening mechanism, a roller blind, a frame, or locks. They are mounted in the upper part of the body and must be compatible with the car version, body type, and factory equipment.

What are sunroofs, convertible tops, panoramic and standard roofs used for?

Sunroofs, convertible tops, panoramic and standard roofs are used to cover the vehicle interior and improve the comfort of using the car. In addition to the basic protective function, they can provide ventilation, additional cabin lighting, and the possibility of opening the upper part of the body. They also affect the fit of the headliner, cabin sealing, and daily convenience.

What role does the sunroof cassette play?

The sunroof cassette is a support assembly in which the roof panel, guides, and sliding or tilting mechanism operate. It serves to maintain the correct geometry of the entire system and to drain water through designated channels. Its condition affects the ease of operation, tightness, and correct alignment of the panel relative to the roof and headliner.

How to choose a roof or sunroof for a specific car version?

It is best to compare the OEM number, body version, mounting side of associated elements, and control type. It is worth checking if the car has the same cassette, roller blind, type of electrical installation, and compatible mounting points. For pre-facelift and post-facelift cars, differences may concern the finish, sensors, or closing method.

What symptoms indicate a problem with roof elements?

Typical symptoms include leaks, wind noise, panel jamming, uneven closing, or signs of moisture on the headliner. In convertible tops, material wear, tension problems, or difficulty in frame operation often occur. Such symptoms should be associated with checking seals, drains, and the drive mechanism.

How to maintain sunroofs, convertible tops, panoramic and standard roofs?

The basis is regular cleaning of seals, guides, and drains, as well as removing dirt from around the roof frame. Moving mechanisms should be lubricated with agents intended for such systems, without overloading the guides. For soft tops, it is also worth checking the condition of the fabric, seams, and folding points.
